This After School Program is unique. At BRIGHT START, we combine exciting enrichment learning opportunities with fun. Children learn about artists, animal adaptations, nature, nutrition, crafts, science, music, countries and cultures, drama and improv, sports skills and community service. They also perform plays and variety shows. We make time for free play inside and out, along with time for homework. Children engage in all types of activities:

  • visual arts, crafts and cultural studies
  • inventions and experiments
  • life skills and problem-solving games
  • drama, music and literature
  • nature exploration and nutrition
  • community service

BRIGHT START is associated with the Arlington Bishop School and is available to children in kindergarten through fifth grade. At BRIGHT START, children enjoy the advantages of special attention in a stimulating environment designed to:

  • Enhance their self-image
  • Introduce them to new interest areas
  • Build their communication skills
  • Provide experienced guidance and support
  • Appeal to their natural curiosity and creativity

BRIGHT START offers children a unique blend of challenging activities within a warm, loving, secure setting. Director, Andrea Gingrande, who founded the school in 1991, manages Bright Start and teaches in the program along with her excellent staff. Previously, Andrea was director of Acton’s K-6 Academically Talented program. Andrea has a M.Ed. in Gifted Education from Johns Hopkins University and was an Education Policy Fellow in Washington, D.C. She has taught in Massachusetts for over 26 years.
